Medical weight loss means that we use all avenues at our disposal to help you lose weight except for surgery. This includes medications, nutrition, and exercise.

However, sometimes surgery is the most appropriate option, and Dr. Mathur will advise you if this is the case and refer you to a bariatric surgeon.

WHAT IS

MEDICAL

WEIGHT

LOSS?

Losing weight in general will improve your overall health. But losing weight too fast, following a radical diet, or losing muscle mass can lead to dangerous consequences. It is important that you have a clinician monitoring you when on any weight loss program.

MEDICATIONS

DO YOU USE?

For some individuals, weight loss medications can be safe and appropriate. They can restore the balance of hormones that regulate hunger, cravings, satiety (sensation of fullness), and weight loss. Dr. Mathur evaluates each person’s medical and weight history to determine if using a weight loss medication is indicated and safe. Medications include metformin, phentermine, phendimetrazine (bontril), diethylpropion (tenuate), qsymia, contrave, topamax, wellbutrin, naltrexone, saxenda, semaglutide (ozempic, wegovy, rybelsus), and mounjaro / zepbound (tirzepatide). Your health is Dr. Mathur’s #1 priority.

1. SAFETY: For people who are obese or overweight, losing weight can improve their health dramatically. However, weight loss – especially rapid loss – can have dangerous side effects. This is why you need regular monitoring by a doctor while on any weight loss program.

2. EFFICACY*: Dr. Mathur uses principles and techniques learned from Dr. Allen Rader, an obesity medicine specialist and founder of Medical Bariatrics of America. Dr. Rader’s program has helped thousands of persons lose over half a million pounds. His research has shown better long-term results than Atkins, Optifast, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, and Nutrisystem.

3. PERSONALIZATION: At Lifelong Weight Loss, we determine the best program for you and modify it to fit your medical history, dietary requirements, and personal struggles.

4. COMPASSION/SUPPORT: The journey towards weight loss is difficult and can get lonely and frustrating. Dr. Mathur and her team are here to support you along the way. You do not have to struggle alone.

5. SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE: Dr. Mathur is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She regularly attends conferences to learn the latest information and guidelines on obesity medicine, while also constantly reading the latest articles about nutrition and weight loss. She has helped thousands of patients live a healthier life.

6. AFFORDABILITY: We keep our prices transparent and accept payments from FSAs and HSAs so that many people can participate in our program. Our primary  focus is to make Houstonians healthier.

Our program is named Lifelong Weight Loss because our intent is to help you lose weight and keep it off by changing your lifestyle and eating habits for good. Unlike other programs, ours is not based on a single diet; we teach you how to eat healthy and make wise food choices on a daily basis. We are also unlike most programs in that we do not do group visits or use a one-size-fits-all approach to weight loss plans. Every patient receives a personalized wellness plan based on their specific needs and biochemistry.

HOW IS

YOUR

PROGRAM

DIFFERENT

FROM ALL

OF
THE

OTHERS?

Do you

perform

food

sensitivity

testing?

No. The commercial tests available for food sensitivity check for antibodies to specific foods. Even you are making antibodies in response to certain foods, this does not meet that you have an allergy or sensitivity to that food. Often times, these tests show many food sensitivities, making it very difficult to adhere to such a restricted diet. The best way to tell if you are allergic or sensitive to certain foods is by monitoring your symptoms in response to eating those foods, or by doing an elimination diet in which each food is taken out of your diet systematically.
