Diabetes Mellitus

Type 2

Diabetes mellitus type 2 - or adult onset diabetes - is the most common type of diabetes in adults, and it is now also being seen in children. This condition develops when the body becomes resistant to insulin. Insulin is the hormone responsible for keeping blood sugar low. When our bodies become insensitive to insulin, the blood sugar rises, resulting in the development of diabetes.

The current approach to diabetes management involves using medications, including insulin, to help lower blood sugar. At Lifelong Weight Loss, we recognize that the key to treating diabetes is to address the cause rather than adding more insulin. In fact, the use of insulin to treat type 2 diabetes often leads to weight gain, which leads to the need for more and more insulin over time.

At Lifelong Weight Loss, we can help you to lose weight and lower your body’s resistance to insulin, thus lowering your blood sugar level. You may even be able to decrease the amount of insulin or diabetes medicines you are taking.

We always recommend that you continue to see your primary care doctor or endocrinologist for your diabetes management, but we are ready to work together with your other doctors to achieve maximum control of your diabetes with as little medication as possible.
