what is

tirzepatide?

Tirzepatide, like semaglutide, activates the GLP-1 receptors in our bodies (see semaglutide page). However, it also activates our GIP receptors. GIP is another blood glucose and weight management hormone. Because Tirzepatide activates two hormones, it produces a more powerful effect than semaglutide on weight and blood sugar control. The GIP receptor activation also seems to help reduce the nausea associated with this class of medications (although nausea is still one of the most common side effects).

This dual mechanism of action makes tirzepatide arguably the most powerful weight loss medication that is currently on the market. Tirzepatide is the chemical compound found in the brand name drugs Mounjaro and Zepbound.
